At one time, small country stores were a common sight in the Hacker Valley. Time and a shifting economy have changed that, but this little country grocer has remained as stubborn and impervious to time as the ruggedly beautiful landscape of West Virginia. Holly River Grocery is the only remaining store in the northern most end of Webster County, and it strives to maintain that old county store charm that makes some feel like they’re stepping back in time. For us, it feels like home!
We’re Louise and Sonny, and we purchased the store in 1987. Originally, the building was used to house an old gun shop (and we still sell guns and ammo!), but we recognized that our community and the visitors who traveled to experience the quiet and wild wonders of West Virginia needed more, so we began making additions and became Holly River Grocery.
We continue to be family-owned and family-operated, and we have grown into a true one-stop-shop in the Hacker Valley! If you need it, we’ve (probably!) got it.
